Our Story

Recipes from the Horn of Africa.

KC Burgers is a Somali kitchen on East 12th Street. Our owner, Mohamed Awo, brought his family's recipes from the Horn of Africa — the cardamom-perfumed rice, the slow-braised goat, the hand-rolled jabati blistered on a hot flat-top — and built a small restaurant around them, here in Kansas City.

The menu reads like a Somali table. Bariis and baasto. Suqaar with peppers and onions. Whole fish, fried crisp. Sambusa folded by hand and dropped into hot oil when you order. Shaah brewed with clove and cinnamon. And because this is Kansas City, there's also a proper cheeseburger, a Philly, a basket of wings — for the regulars who want what they want.

We are small. We make it when you ask for it. We treat regulars like family because most of them are. Soo dhowow — welcome.
